Happy Christmas from the Conference Elves

Manchester Met Conference and Events Team

Conference and Events Team Celebrate Christmas

It’s been a fantastic year for the Conference Team, getting back to what we do best, and enjoying welcoming thousands of delegates and learners onto the campus for summer schools, conferences, filming, and a range of other events.

We’re also delighted to have recruited Saffie, who has moved over from our Residential Services team to take up the position of Conference Coordinator – Welcome to the team Saffie.

With so much going on this year, we thought we’d use this chance to celebrate some of our successes over 2022 and look forward to the coming year, which promises to be an exciting time for us:

James:

One of the highlights of 2022 was the recent weekend conference we ran for the Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators – they’ve had their conferences down South for the last ten years so I was delighted they chose Manchester Met.

Feedback from this conference was all about how welcomed they felt by the teams who looked after them over the weekend – I’m always impressed by the welcome our clients get from every area of our staff – thanks everyone, you can make the difference between good events and great events.

Saffie:

My highlight of 2022 has been successfully securing a permanent role within the Conference & Events team. I had the pleasure of helping the team out over summer whilst I was working in the Student Living team. This is a fantastic opportunity for me as I always wanted to start a career in this industry, especially after doing a related degree and college course during my education.

I look forward to working with Gemma, James and Louise and further expanding my knowledge. Thank you to Gemma and James for giving me this exciting opportunity.

Gemma:

I think the highlight for me has just been the team getting back into doing what we do best – running successful conferences and events. I’m also really pleased to have Saffie on board – she’s a great addition to the team.

The second half of this academic year will be exciting for us: We’ve some brilliant conferences coming up, a massive amount of summer residential business, and it’s also good to see the Association and Society conferences coming through internally again.

Manchester is really in the spotlight at the moment as a top destination, and we’re keen to capitalise on this in 2023.

Louise:

The highlight of 2022 for me was the planning and delivery of the Carbon Literacy Project’s 10th Birthday Celebration. Having completed the carbon literacy training myself, I have first-hand experience of how a project like this can reduce peoples carbon footprint. It was great to be able to give back and support them with celebrating this important milestone!

Special thanks to Alan, our Head Chef, and Ian, our Hospitality Manger, who went above and beyond and kindly arranged a vegan pizza tasting with our client, to ensure this was the right catering option for their guests. They were a great hit, and we received some great feedback, even from those that are not vegan.”

The Conference and Events team are grateful for all the support we get across the University, and would like to wish you all a very, Merry Christmas.
