Major Summer Events at Manchester Metropolitan University

It has been a busy summer of conference and events activity at Manchester Metropolitan University. Manchester Met hosted a number of major international conferences this summer, strengthening the university’s position as a popular academic venue of choice for conference and group accommodation facilities in the North West.

The conferences and events took place in the well-equipped Business School, contemporary Benzie building and the striking Brooks Building at Birley, all of which offer something different in style and facilities. The Urban Sketchers Symposium, International Conference on Unconventional Computation and Natural Computation (UCNC), BSides Manchester Conference and Playful Learning Conference were among the events hosted at the university this summer.

Positive Experience

The Urban Sketchers Symposium hosted in the Benzie Building was a huge success, attracting 500 international delegates. Centrally located on the Manchester Campus, the building’s workshops and hybrid studios provided the perfect environment for the urban sketchers to learn new techniques in structured sessions.

Sketchers who stayed in the University’s Townhouses at Birley expressed their thoughts on Facebook and said, “Student accommodation is a blast! Where can I sign in to study here?” Many of the delegates from the event echoed similar positive feedback.

The Brooks Building welcomed the Playful Learning Conference. The fun and exciting three day event, which explores how learning and playing intersects for adults, generated great interest and feedback on social media. Attendees were impressed with the high standards of catering saying: “Best conference dinner ever, bar none!” The Conference and Events team delivered a professional service with delegates noting: “What an amazing events team! I was so impressed!”

In addition, the Birley residences at the university was the accommodation of choice for England Athletics and Starburst Film Festival’s delegate accommodation. Staying in the four star VisitEngland accredited en-suite residential accommodation at Birley, which features 290 study bedrooms and high-speed WiFi throughout, both organisations provided positive feedback on their stay.

Welcome back

A warm welcome back to BSides Manchester Conference, who returned to host their conference at the Business School building for the second consecutive year. The event was a huge hit with 330 guests attending the conference. BSides event organisers, Mark Turner, attributed much of the conference’s success to Manchester Met’s facilities and Conference and Events team, he said: “This is our second year at Manchester Metropolitan’s Business School and it has been great both years. The event team do everything they can to accommodate all requests.Their flexibility makes organising an event a lot easier!”
